"I could careless if I end up working at [a donut shop]"?

His mis-use of the phrase (it's COULDN'T care less) seems to indicate that he is very likely going to get his wish. He's correct in one sense, though, education has intrinsic value in-and-of itself, no matter what career is pursued.
