What should a deputy do if there's a dog laying in a private front yard, still, but appears unsupervised?

If it's a no leash law county will a deputy pull over, call the dog to the car to get in the back seat and then knock on the door to see if the dog lives there? Especially if it's a giant Mastiff, or other large dog.
